  • Paul Burton, Managing Director

    Paul has worked in the Burton family business since the mid-1980s and has over 25 years’ experience in the civil construction industry. Having commenced his journey while working for his father John Burton, Paul has become a leading example of opportunities for people within Burton Contractors. Paul has worked in most sectors of the business including being a Foreman, Estimator, Project Manager and General Manager before becoming Managing Director. Paul has a detailed understanding of the industry and strong relationships with government and private sector clients.

    Paul was the company’s General Manager when he and his brother Christopher successfully transitioned through succession planning the business to a second generation owned family business from the founder, their father, John Burton.

    Paul and Christopher have led this second generation company to significant success, growing the business from a medium size business to a second tier contractor of substance.

    Paul is a passionate and focused leader who places a high priority on the development of the company’s people. He is committed to further building the success of Burton Contractors around its core values. He is a fiscally conscious and goal-driven Managing Director who approaches each new business challenge with flair for innovation, creative problem-solving and measured risk-taking to drive consistent bottom-line improvements and shareholder returns.

    In this role Paul has responsibility for developing strategies, programs and initiatives that underpin the company’s strategic objectives and engage key internal and external stakeholder groups. The current portfolio encompasses brand and market positioning, corporate communications, sustainability, stakeholder relations and emerging media management.

  • Chris Burton, General Manager

    Christopher brings to the role of General Manager many areas of expertise including operations, construction management and project management skills. He has over 15 years’ knowledge in the civil engineering industry, with hands on experience across all levels of contracting.

    His experience includes projects involving roads and freeways, bridges, railways, concrete structures, major earthworks, quarrying, and extensive experience in managing the operations of the business. Chris has improved the business by creating and implementing improved expense reporting methodologies and eliminating poor or redundant work practices.  Christopher has strong, proven managerial success and has continually achieved excellent financial and delivery outcomes for both for clients and the business alike.

    Christopher’s commitment to developing the company’s people is paramount as demonstrated through his leadership of the Supervisor Development Program, Engineers Development Program and the company's Trainee Program.

    Chris is responsible for a number of key strategies and initiatives around diversity and participation, leadership, succession planning, performance management and culture. His commitment to developing people, achieving safety performance and delivering results is fundamental to ensuring the business continues to provide superior value to clients, remains innovative and delivers on future industry needs.

    Together with his brother Paul, Chris champions the development and implementation of the business growth strategy, leveraging operational knowledge and expertise to increase complementary business opportunities.
