Richmond Road Upgrade Officially Underway

On Saturday 16th February, the Richmond Road Upgrade project was officially launched by NSW Premier Barry O’Farrell and Roads Minister Duncan Gay. The launch was held at the work site in Marsden Park where Mr O’Farrell and Mr Gay turned the first dirt and reminded the public of the significance of the project.

‘‘We brought forward this vital project because of its importance to supporting new housing and employment lands in western Sydney,’’ Mr O’Farrell said.

‘‘Richmond Road is a key arterial road for the North West Growth Centre – it will link the new residential and employment lands to the M7.’’

In August last year, Burton Contractors secured a pre-qualification upgrade to complete RMS works up to the value of $50 million – the $25 million Richmond Road Upgrade is company’s first project in this category.

Works commenced earlier this month and will primarily involve a two kilometre conversion of the existing two-lane Richmond Road to a four lane road.

Other works will include:

  • Property access adjustments;
  • Major utility diversion (in addition to new utilities);
  • Construction of temporary pavements for traffic switching and staging;
  • Signalisation of intersections;
  • Design and construction of underground cable-ways for the Intelligent Transport System (ITS);
  • Storm water drainage construction (including major culvert construction); and
  • Liaison with local communities.

Works are due for completion in June 2014.
