Project Name
Coles Mayfield Demolition & Remediation
$Value of project
$1 million
Location of project
Mayfield, NSW
Contract period
March 2013 - December 2013
Scope of works

The site is proposed for a Coles Supermarket Complex and consisted of derelict former Car Sales and Service Station, a number of Commercial Buildings and 7 residential allotments. All buildings and infrastructure were demolished, removal of several underground storage tanks (UST), disconnection of services, removal of hazardous materials, excavation of contaminated material following removal of the USTs and subsequent land-farming of materials in preparation for off-site disposal. Bound by residential and commercial premises, located on a busy main road meant controlling dust and noise levels along with regular community liaison with the various shop owners and residents.

Project Highlights

Bound by residential and commercial premises and being on the main road through Mayfield meant controlling of dust and noise levels was critical and regular  community liaison with the various shop owners and residents was carried out to ensure they were kept up-to-date with the demolition progress and to ensure they were satisfied the dust and noise levels were not impacting on their day-to-day lives.  One of the adjoining properties was an organisation providing services to people with a disability or disadvantage who had special needs and demolition work schedules had to be coordinated with their planned activities so as not to have any impact on their people.  Excavation of the UST including using a rock-breaker as the contamination founds its way through cracks in the under lying rock strata.
