Cycling in Sydney’s east has just become easier, thanks to the opening of the Kingsford to Centennial Park Cycleway.
In a special ceremony attended by BikeEast, Burton Contractors, Randwick City Council and Transport for New South Wales, the ribbon was officially cut on the first stage of the cycleway between Barker Street and Todman Avenue.
Burton Contractors staff have worked tirelessly since March 2022 to deliver the project, which was managed by Transport for New South Wales on behalf of Randwick City Council.
The project offers a range of benefits to community members, including 1.8km of separated cycleway and a suite of traffic calming, pedestrian improvements, and safety measures. Features of the project include:
- upgraded traffic signals
- four raised pedestrian crossings
- installation or upgrade of 23 pram ramps
- the replacement of 2500 square metres of concrete footpath
- 48 upgraded driveways
- installation of 780m of stormwater pipes and 75 stormwater pits
- replaced over 1000m of kerbs and gutters
- re-aligned and upgraded 22 streetlights
- installed eight new floodlights at the new pedestrian crossings
The second stage of the cycleway between Todman Avenue and Alison Road is expected to be open in late December.
A massive shoutout to Burton staff for their hard work and dedication in bringing this project to completion.
