Description of Project:

The works involved the reconstruction and upgrading of approximately 360 metres of Showground Road in The Hills Shire Local Government Area, between Kentwell Avenue and Pennant Street, Castle Hill.  The project works resulted in the widening of Showground road from two lanes to three lanes at the Pennant Road intersection and completing a traffic light intersection at Kentwell Road.

Scope of Works:

The key features of the works included:

  • Reconstruction and widening of approximately 360 metres of Showground Road to dual separated carriageways
  • Construction of a concrete upstand retaining wall approximately 13m long and 0.6m high along the Eastern corner of Cheriton Avenue and Showground Road
  • Construction of new signalised intersections at Showground Road, Cheriton Avenue and Kentwell Avenue
  • Signal works were also required for the turning lane from Showground Road to Pennant Street which included the installation of conduits for future upgrade works of the intersection
  • Major utility relocations including potable water mains, gas mains, street lighting and electrical infrastructure, telecommunications and the construction of ITS infrastructure
  • Roadworks including erosion and sedimentation, clearing and grubbing, earthworks (including the provision of a controlled subgrade layer consisting of existing concrete pavements), stormwater and subsurface drainage and pavement construction
  • Miscellaneous works including property adjustments, fencing, construction of kerbs and gutters, concrete safety barrier system, concrete paving for shared path, signposting, pavement markings and landscaping
  • Relocation of electrical infrastructure and street lighting
  • Relocation and installation of water infrastructure
  • Relocation and protection of telecommunication assets
  • Relocation and protection during construction of Jemena assets
  • Maintenance of all existing property accesses (residential and commercial)
  • Ancillary works including safety barriers, guide posts, pavement marking, signposting, urban design elements, vegetation and fencing
